If you are interested in learning more about Central or have been attending and want to join our community, NextStep is for you.

 

With NextStep, we have designed a brief small group experience to engage and connect you with our leaders and community.  This is a time for you to ask questions and grow in your understanding of our history and structure.

 

NextStep also provides you the opportunity to join with us in your faith journey by becoming a member of our community. 

We really do feel that life is better connected and think that NextStep is a great way for us to connect with one another.

    To access the ShelbyNext Membership App, follow the instructions below:

    1. In your App store, search for "ShelbyNext" 
    2. Download and install the "ShelbyNext | Membership" App
    3. Open the ShelbyNext Membership App
    4. In place of "domain", insert "cumcmdn" 
    5. In the 'Name' field, insert your name by entering it in this order:  First.Last   (Notice that there are no spaces but a period between the first and last name.)
    6. If you know your password, insert it here; otherwise, click "forgot password?"
    7. You will receive an email with a random password
    8. Insert that password in the field  (You will probably want to change that password to one you can remember.) 

    If this does not work, then you may not have entered your name as we have it on file. 

    (Generally, your first name is your 'preferred name' in Shelby.)

    To access the ShelbyNext Giving App, follow the instructions below:

    1. In your App store, search for "ShelbyNext"
    2. Download and install the ShelbyNext | Giving App
    3. You will need to establish an account the first time with your credit card or bank account information. 

    You can then use the app to make donations to any of Central's funds; even by using the 'Other' field to specify a fund that is not listed.


  • "Central Methodist Community" App

    You may also want to download our “Central Community” app. This app will give you more detailed information about life at Central.  


    To download the app, in your app store, search for "Central Community" and install the app. You may need to narrow the search further by adding either "Methodist" and/or "Meridian".

This year, the Childcare Center is offering an Early Bird Program (beginning at 7:50 each morning)

and two "stay-and-play" days on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Both of these programs are separate from our normal hours and will be an additional fee.


Mother's Morning Out is a new program being offered during the summer only.  

It will be every Tuesday and Wednesday except for the week of VBS.

  • 1st -5th Grade Rotation Sunday School

The children meet in Central Park [Children’s Floor] every Sunday morning at 9:40 for "Gathering Time"; then, at 10 a.m., each class goes to their designated workshop.


  • Wednesday Night Programming for        K-5th Grade - RESUMES AUGUST 14th

Dinner: 5:00-6:00 p.m. [Fellowship Hall] Reservations Required

Lesson: 6:00-7:00 p.m. [10th Street Gym]

Music practice will be held during regular meeting times.  Liturgical dance practice will begin in November.

UPCOMING EVENTS

  • PROMOTION SUNDAY

    AUGUST 4TH

    Students three years old through 12th grade will be promoted to their new Sunday School classes!


    All students will report to their new classes except for students in the 5th grade [those going to 6th grade in the fall].


    These 5th grade students will meet in The Zone.  Then, a representative from Youth Ministry will come greet them and take them to their class.

    Students of all ages are encouraged to bring their backpacks to receive a blessing for the 2019-2020 school year.

  • TEACHER APPRECIATION SUNDAY

    AUGUST 4TH

    We will say “thank you” to our teachers on this day by having a table set up in The Crossing for them to collect school supplies for their classrooms. 


    This is just a small token of our appreciation for their selfless giving; not only for their teaching but also for ministering to the students in our community.

Our students had a blast at BreakThru this year.  A big "Thank You" to all the volunteers who accompanied us on this journey of faith.  Per Kevin Hatch, "I saw each and every one of our youth take a giant step in their spiritual journey. Praying they will continue to make Christ their #truenorth in 2019!"

Music OPPORTUNITiES

Sanctuary  Adult  Choir

The Sanctuary Choir contributes to the 10:55 a.m. Sunday Traditional services in addition to special music during Holy Week and Christmas.  


                                          While previous singing experience is helpful

                                     no audition is required to join.  

                                                

NEW  SINGERS  ARE  ALWAYS  WELCOME!


The Sanctuary Choir rehearses Wednesday nights from 7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. during the school year with occasional extra rehearsals scheduled before important events.  

[Please refer to the church calendar for dates and times as this changes during the summer and as we get closer to special events.]

Month of July -  NO CHOIR!  

There will be no choir rehearsals nor will there be a choir in the Traditional services on Sunday mornings during the month of July.  Please take this time to sit with your family and friends.  This is also a great opportunity for you or someone you know to volunteer to sing a solo, duet, trio, quartet, quintet, etc.  or provide special music by playing an instrument during one of the Sundays in July .  Simply contact Tim Wise to schedule a Sunday.  It will be greatly appreciated!

They meet in the Adult Activities Room [3rd Floor] for fellowship and a meal.

This group of Senior Adults meets the

first Tuesday of each month.  

Each XYZ event starts with an exciting program!  

Then, for only $7, we enjoy a delicious meal together!  


You do not have to be a senior adult to attend.  

Everyone is welcome!

The Senior Adults have added a new opportunity for fellowship. 

There will be a Dinner Trip 

every 3rd Thursday of each month!  


Reservations should be made by the Wednesday before the date of the trip.  


For most of our trips, we will meet at the church in the 10th Street Parking Garage and leave as a group.

    Rev. Dr. Fred Allen is the national director of SBC21 (Strengthening the Black Church for the 21st Century) where he assists predominantly Black congregations in becoming effective in mission and ministry by linking successful congregational resource centers with congregations in search of new ideas and revitalization.  Dr. Allen is an ordained United Methodist Church (UMC) elder with more than 30 years’ experience as a senior pastor, administrator and church agency executive. He earned degrees from Tennessee State University, Saint Paul School of Theology in Kansas City, Mo. and Drew University School of Theology in Madison, N.J. Dr. Allen is married to Christine, a public school teacher, and is the father of four children.

  • Dr. Richard H. Gentzler, Jr. (Teaching Pastor)

    Dr. Richard H. Gentzler, Jr. (Rick) is the director for ENCORE Ministries, a ministry of the Golden Cross Foundation of the United Methodist Church (UMC) Tennessee Conference. He is the former director of the Center on Aging and Older Adult Ministries for the General Board of Discipleship of the UMC. Dr. Gentzler is author of numerous books and articles on aging, midlife and older adult ministry. His latest book is An Age of Opportunity.

  • Senior Trip with Cheryl Rogers (Entertainment)

    Cheryl Rogers is a singer, composer, music producer and keyboardist who has been working in the music, entertainment and commercial recording industry for over 30 years.  She is a five-time Gospel Music Association Dove award nominee and music producer on the Grammy award-winning “Tribute Project” by Andrae Crouch. She is also a 4-time Emmy award winner for various television music productions for programs and commercials. Her music has been played all over the world on radio, television and internet. Throughout her career, Cheryl has been known not only for her music talent, but also for her quick wit and sense of humor throughout all projects she contributed to.

      Make friends and enjoy live music while you take in the historic beauty of the Lambuth Inn over tea, tea sandwiches, scones and sweets.  An additional fee of $15 is required and can be added to the overall price during registration.


  • Optional Field Trips

    Tuesday, August 6 - Waynesville | Wednesday, August 7 - Biltmore Estate

     

    Shop in Waynesville or tour the Biltmore Estate during your free time at the Festival of Wisdom and Grace. Limited spaces, Biltmore Estate $75.  Register upon arrival.  There is also an Asheville day trip that will cost $30.

  • Optional Mission Project

    Wednesday, August 7 | Harell Center, 2-4 p.m.

     

    Join us as we put together “Homeless Bags” on Wednesday afternoon to help give back.  Each person who participates is asked to donate $10 to the project to help cover material costs.
