CENTRAL'S CHILDREN'S CENTER

The Children's Center is a weekday ministry of the church.  We serve children ages one through four.  We are a "learning center" and concentrate on having our children ready for kindergarten when that time comes.  Each age level is working on these five areas each day:  color of the month, shape of the month, number of the month, letter of the week, and a Bible verse for the month; all with age-appropriate activities, arts and crafts, games, and songs.

NEW STUDENT REGISTRATIONS:

There are still openings in the two and three-year old’s classes for fall.  For registration information, call Glenda Thomas at 601-483-8502.

OPEN HOUSE AND BEGINNING SCHOOL:

The fall program at the Children's Center will begin on Friday, August 12th, with an Open House for all students and their parents.  Students will meet their teachers at 9:30 AM and parents will join other parents in the Fellowship Hall at 10:00 AM for a brief parent orientation. The first day of school will be Monday, August 15th.

PARENTS ONLY NIGHT:

Parents Only Night is designed to inform parents about curriculum, discipline protocol, teacher-parent communication, and opportunities for involvement in the classroom.  It also gives parents the opportunity to ask the teacher any questions they may have regarding their child without the distraction of their child being present.  Parents Only Night will be September 8th at 6:30 PM and will begin in the Sanctuary before moving to the classrooms.

FOUR-YEAR OLD’S ART SHOW:

The four-year class will present their Art Show at Parents Only Night on August 8th and will also be prepared to "show off" their art on Friday morning, August 9th.   They will be studying the art masters such as Van Gogh, Picasso, Degas, Monet and even Andy Warhol.  Come see their art on Friday morning, August 9th, or you may stroll through The Crossing on Sunday morning, August 11th.

Matthew 18:1-5

At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Who then is greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” Then Jesus called a little child to Him, set him in the midst of them, and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Whoever receives one little child like this in My name receives Me.

Pastor's notes

Dear Central Family,

Thank you for your warm welcome to Lynn, John Wesley, and me as we arrived in Meridian and Central just a few days ago. We are truly blessed and pleased to be with you in this place!

The first weeks and months of a pastoral transition can be a fertile and important time for the church, its leaders and people. I pray that this will be the case for us as we get established in our life together. The arriving pastor’s first job is to “show up and move in,” in both church and community. Some of you have already helpfully boosted us with this first activity. Also, thank you for being patient with us in telling us your names, sometimes for the second or third or . . . times. We want to know you, and that will come together with just a bit of time.

Dr. William Bridges did groundbreaking work on the subject of transitions, and he identified things that make for healthy and productive ones: we identify our purpose, we determine and share the plan, we hold up a picture of what we’re working toward, and we identify the parts each of us play in working the plan. Through it all, and most essentially, we share care and concern. What’s another word for care and concern? How about “love”? Yes, I believe that’s an excellent word.

Here, in the middle of July, we are currently doing the Sunday series “Help! Thanks! Wow!”, after which, we’ll be spending some weeks with the Apostles’ Creed and what we profess to believe. Worshiping with you at Central has been a joy. I know that will continue, and I look forward to these Sundays to come.

May the Lord guide and bless through these days and in all of our ways!

Rick

BACKPACK BUDDIES

Our Backpack Buddies Ministry still needs your help by continuing to collect food items throughout the year.  We ask that you purchase an item or two when you go to the store each week to help maintain a stocked inventory.

During the school year, we partner with Parkview Elementary School by providing weekend backpacks filled with non-perishable items to help sustain at-need students (identified by school staff) over the weekends when meals might otherwise be unavailable.  We have 20 students at this point in need of weekend backpacks.

You may place items in one of two places:

  1. 1st floor in the shopping cart located outside of the church office
  2. 2nd floor on the tables with the Backpack Buddies banner located in the area right outside of the fellowship hall

While not limited to items listed below, suggested food items are listed below.  For more information, you may contact:
