CASON’S CORNER:

A MESSAGE FROM YOUR LEAD PASTOR

  • I have enjoyed serving as your Interim Lead Pastor for the past four months. This is my first time communicating with you through a newsletter.

I am impressed with the remarkable Church Staff already in place. I am also encouraged by the “spiritual hunger” I see as I talk to members about their hopes and dreams for Central.

Many of you in the 9 AM and 11 AM worship services have commented on the “altar calls” I have given lately. I believe that God should speak to us in every service. While decisions can be made in our seats, sometimes the commitment is more real if we come to the altar. If you don’t feel comfortable coming to the altar, I am available at any time to personally meet with you. If you have never professed your faith in Christ or want to join Central, you can do so at either service.

I see a four-fold role for my ten-month tenure here:

    • Prepare the church for the next appointed Lead Pastor
    • Empower the Church Staff to be servant leaders
    • Encourage individual members to grow in their relationship with God
    • Continue to build a leadership team that will become “partners in ministry” with the Lead Pastor and Church Staff.

    Jimmy Cason

BACKPACK BUDDIES

Our Backpack Buddies Ministry is ramping back up after an eighteen month hiatus. This year, we are partnering with Parkview Elementary School by providing weekend backpacks filled with non-perishable items to help sustain at-need students (identified by school staff) over the weekends when meals might otherwise be unavailable. We have 20 students at this point in need of weekend backpacks. As we restart this ministry opportunity, we ask that you pick up extra items when you go to the store over the next few weeks to help us get a good base inventory and then, continue to purchase an item or two when you go to the store each week.

Items will be collected through the end of the school year. You may place items in the shopping cart on the 2nd floor located right outside the elevator. While not limited to items listed below, suggested food items are listed for us to provide in the weekly backpacks. For more information, you may contact Sabrina Williams, Melissa Goldman, Jolie Carle, or Tracie Wichman.

COLLEGE CARES MINISTRY

Central has over 35 students attending colleges across the country. The Women’s Ministry College Cares Committee, led by Sheila Uithoven, is assembling Care Packages for these students to let them know our church is praying for them during the stressful final exams period. The committee is accepting donations to offset the costs of supplies and postage.  If you would like to help provide a care package, please give your check made payable to CUMC (note College Cares on memo) to the church office or Sheila Uithoven (601-479-5129) or make your donation online at www.cumcmdn.org to Women’s Ministry (note College Cares).

CHILDREN AND FAMILY MINISTRIES

For more information and updates on children's activities at Central, visit our Central UMC Children's page on Facebook and send us a friend request.

For additional information, contact Central's Children and Family Ministries Director, Sabrina Williams, at sabrina@cumcmdn.org.

ALTAR PRAYER COMMITTEE

One of the ways we can show our love for one another is by praying for others. The Women’s Ministry Altar Prayer Committee would be pleased to pray for special needs that individuals might have which they wish to remain private. These are not included in Central’s published prayer list.

If you would like to submit a private prayer request, stop by one of the prayer boxes and fill out the card that is provided. Place the card in a sealed envelope and put it in the prayer box. Prayer boxes are located at the 22nd Avenue entrance, the narthex, and across from the third floor elevator.

A member of the Altar Prayer Committee, who has signed a confidentiality agreement, will pray over these requests in our church’s prayer room Monday—Friday. We want to stand with you in prayer.

PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY

If you would like to participate in Central's Prayer Shawl Ministry, 2022 is your year! If you have always wanted to learn how to crochet or knit, we have a group of ladies who are more than willing to help you learn. They meet on Monday afternoons at 1:00 p.m. in the church library on the 1st floor. This is a great opportunity to learn and participate in a ministry that provides prayer shawls to people in both times of need and celebration.

For more information, email Sabrina Williams at sabrina@cumcmdn.org or Terese Stuckman at tt.stuckman@gmail.com.

ADMINISTRATION & FINANCE

If you wish to view your contributions at any time, you may do so by signing in under your personal profile using ShelbyNext. Your profile information [username; password] was sent to you previously. If you do not have this information, please contact the church office and someone will be glad to assist you.

JUST A REMINDER - you will no longer receive your Statement of Giving each quarter.

What's nextstep?

If you are interested in learning more about Central or have been attending and want to join our community, nextstep is for you. With nextstep, we have designed a brief small group experience to engage and connect you with our leaders and community. This is a time for you to ask questions and grow in your understanding of our history and structure. nextstep also provides you the opportunity to join with us in your faith journey by becoming a member of our community. We really do feel that life is better connected and think that nextstep is a great way for us to connect with one another.
